Oracle makes Java 14 (Oracle JDK 14) available, confirming Oracle's commitment to innovation by releasing innovative new features for businesses and the developer community on a semi-annual basis.

The latest JDK release includes several new features, including two highly anticipated previews: Pattern Matching for Instanceof (JEP 305) and Records (JEP 359), as well as a second preview of Text Blocks (JEP 368). In addition, the latest Java release includes Java language support for switch expressions, new JDK Flight Recorder continuous data monitoring APIs, the availability of low-latency Z Garbage Collector for macOS and Windows, and adds, in the "incubator" modules, standalone Java applications and a new Foreign memory access API to efficiently and securely access memory outside the Java heap area.

Release14 is the result of an industry-wide development effort involving open review, weekly builds, and extensive collaboration between Oracle engineers and members of the worldwide Java developer community through the OpenJDK Community and the Java Community Process.

Java continues to be the programming language of choice for software developers. And as evidenced by the timely release of innovative features, through thoughtful planning and ecosystem engagement, the platform continues to fuel advanced application development.

Comments

"Java 14 is further confirmation of the benefits offered by the semi-annual release, giving developers access to features they would otherwise have waited years for," said Georges Saab, vice president of Java Platform development, Oracle. "Not only doesJDK 14 include a number of new features that will improve developer productivity, but also the first major content from projects such as Project Panama, with an improved Foreign-Memory Access API (JEP 370), and continued enhancements from Project Amber, with Pattern Matching (JEP 305) and Records (JEP 359). These enhancements are atestament to the hard work being done on these innovative projects."
