Analog Devices has announced the acquisition of INVECAS' High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) business unit.

The acquisition will provide ADI with a comprehensive portfolio of audio-video solutions to meet the growing needs of the enterprise and consumer markets.

Through this acquisition, ADI will also increase its contribution within the HDMI standardisation body, which will shape the future of all HDMI-related technologies, such as HDMI 2.1 feature sets and reduced power consumption. In addition, ADI will acquire certification and compliance capabilities, ensuring support for customers throughout their HDMI development cycles, from design to pre-compliance and finished product.

As the industry continues to grow and HDMI 2.1 is introduced, applications such as 8K and 10K video, enhanced audio return (eARC), variable refresh rate and more will become commonplace.

This will enablegreater adoption of these technologies as ADI's offering grows to a wider audience with a greater range of functionality and lower energy consumption.

The INVECAS HDMI technology group has a long history that originates from Silicon Image, a semiconductor company founded in 1995, where HDMI technology was first created.

Its leadership will continue to play a significant role in the combination of A DI'saudio and video business units.

With the acquisition of INVECAS' HDMI division, ADI increases its portfolio of technologies and sensing solutions that enhance people's experiences and interactions, opening up new applications and dynamic user interfaces enabled by a wide range of technologies that, when combined with the company's technical expertise, will allow devices to interact with the world in innovative ways. These innovations are aimed at addressing the growing demand for immersive experiences.

Analog Devices ' product suite includes the industry's widest selection of HDMI interface solutions for applications including HDTVs, set-top boxes, A/V receivers, projectors and other multi-input displays.
