Nuance Communications has announced the availability of the Nuance Dragon Medical One cloud-based platform in Italy.

With the Dragon Medical One solution integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) system, healthcare professionals can record a complete patient history at the point of care, reducing the administrative burden currently placed on providers while improving the level of care and quality of documentation.

Thelaunch of Dragon Medical One in Italy is part of the ongoing global expansion of Nuance's platform, which this year alone sees the addition of 14 new countries.

The cloud-based solution is already successfully used by more than 550,000 doctors and healthcare professionals worldwide, simplifying the recording of clinical documentation and the production of reports.

Dragon Medical One enables doctors to create clinical documentation in up to 45% less time and record up to 20% more data with customised tools available on a wide range of fixed and mobile devices.

Doctors can document the complete care of the patient, from the history to the care provided, anywhere and at any time, thus having more time to devote to the patient.

To update an electronic medical record, the operator simply opens the application, chooses the appropriate section and starts talking.

Nuance Dragon Medical One runs on Microsoft Azure-certified hosting infrastructure, providing users with secure and fast performance on a wide selection of devices, as well as automatic access to updates via the cloud.

"The use of intelligent voice technology is part of our broader strategy for managing documentation flows. The solution, which is already being used in radiology, will be introduced in other areas in conjunction with the launch of our new EHR system by the end of November. With this platform, our doctors will be able to compile reports and other clinical documents more quickly and have more time to interact with patients. The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly intensified the pressure on clinicians and digitising the healthcare system is now more important than ever," said Jaques Rossler, Chief Information Officer at Saint-Luc University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium.

"The implementation of Nuance's Dragon Medical One cloud-based solution streamlines the recording of medical data in the medical records system, making it more efficient and intelligent. Ultimately, the platform's conversational intelligence allows doctors to be more efficient in writing reports and other clinical notes, so they can focus on patient care. The technology eases the administrative burden, supporting crucial healthcare interventions during the current crisis and the evolution of the new normal," said Marie-Françoise Gourrin, Chief Information Officer at the Rambouillet Hospital Centre in France.

"This expansion allows us to support more healthcare professionals around the world with our innovative platform, which enables a patient-centric approach by delegating the entire administrative burden to technology," added Diana Nole, executive vice president and general manager of Nuance's Healthcare division. "By allowing practitioners to dictate the contents of patient records using their own voice, without having to remove protective devices, we are protecting healthcare professionals and patients worldwide, a need made even more critical by the pandemic. By harnessing new technologies to make the doctor-patient interaction more fluid, we are also empowering providers to deliver the best possible care."
