Maxim Integrated's new PD42-1-1243-IOLINK Trinamic Series smart actuator allows modern smart factories to quickly adjust an actuator's electrical characteristics remotely, minimising downtime and maximising productivity.

The device combines a NEMA-17 stepper motor with controller and driver circuit electronics.

With the Trinamic brand now part of Maxim Integrated, the PD42-1-1243-IOLINK uses the flexibility of Maxim Integrated's MAX22513 IO-Link transceiver to enable seamless configuration of all operating modes of the Trinamic TMC2130-LA driver.

As the smallest and lowest-power NEMA-17 PANdrive solution on the market, the intelligent actuator can monitor 50% more performance and configuration parameters, reducing commissioning time and improving data quality for predictive maintenance.

The new TMC2130-LA motor driver and MAX22513 IO-Link transceiver chipset solution takes advantage of the universal two-way IO-Link interface.

The PD42-1-1243-IOLINKintelligent actuator incorporates industry-leading motion control technology in a plug-and-play solution that is 2.6 times smaller and over 50 % less power than competitive solutions.

The device bringsintelligence directly to the factory floor, providing 50% more parameters than competing solutions, helping to improve downtime prediction and maximising factory productivity.

The PD42-1-1243-IOLINK intelligent actuator includes the following chipsets:

MAX22513: The MAX22513 IO-Link transceiver is three times smaller than similar competitive solutions, making it the smallest dual-driver IO-Link transceiver (4.2 x 2.1 mm WLP package) with Ā±1kV/500Ī© overvoltage protection. The highly integrated component includes a DC-DC voltage regulator, protection diodes, auxiliary digital input, IĀ²C or SPI control interface, integrated oscillator and LDO regulator selectable between 3.3V and 5V, providing high configurability and reduced SKU. The chipset allows 4 times less power dissipation than similar competitive solutions due to the low on-resistance (2.0 Ī© typical) of the C/Q driver.

TMC2130-LA: The TMC2130-LA motor driver offers stall detection and, unlike competing solutions, does not require any sensors to signal unwanted mechanical behaviour. The component provides extremely precise and smooth motion using up to 256 micro-steps compared to 16 in traditional solutions, resulting in accurate positioning and minimal resonance. Key features include a complete driver stage with low RDS(on), N-channel power MOSFET transistors configured as an H-bridge to drive motor windings with currents up to 1.2 ARMS and a voltage range of 5V to 46V, an SPI interface for configuration and diagnostics, and a motion direction control interface.
