BittWare, Molex Group, has announced theexpansion of its IA series of FPGA accelerators with Intel Agilex FPGAs.

BittWare's IA Series FPGA accelerators are designed to help customers develop and deploy next-generation edge and cloud applications, offering greater flexibility and speed while reducing risk.

The new low-profile IA-420F PCIe card and IA-220-U2 computational storage processor join the IA-840F accelerator to offer a selection of three form factors popular in the data centre and network infrastructure.

The trio of products are fully PCIe Gen 4 compliant and include application reference designs, as well as support for the oneAPI programming model, which allows hardware developers to create domain-specific FPGA platforms and application developers to create multi-architecture and single-source compilation designs.

According to Gartner's ranking of the top 10 strategic technology trends of 2020 for the empowered edge category, by 2023, more than 50 per cent of data generated by businesses will be created and processed outside the data centre or cloud, compared to just 10 per cent in 2019.

FPGAs play an increasingly important role in the network edge, where real-time data must be processed efficiently along with the critical requirements of latency, bandwidth and security.

Within the cloud, FPGA heterogeneous computing solutions are needed to efficiently process large amounts of structured and unstructured data through high-performance computing and big data analytics in order to add value and orchestrate smart devices in use.

Expanded family of accelerators improves deployment flexibility

The new low-profile PCIe IA-420F card is specially designed for SmartNIC and computational storage use cases.

This single-width half-height and half-length PCIe card is compatible with almost all server and edge platforms.

IA-420F supports multiple 100 G network ports for network processing and sensor applications with high data acquisition requirements.

The 16-lane PCIe Gen 4 interface offers customers bandwidth that is almost double that normally available for FPGA-enhanced systems, making it attractive for data analysis workloads.

The IA-220-U2 computational storage processor is designed to handle NVMe computational storage workloads.

Conforming to the popular U.2 form factor, IA-220-U2 features an Intel Agilex FPGA with an embedded ARM processor subsystem and supports PCIe Gen 4.

This flexible, low-power computing node can be deployed within conventional NVMe U.2 storage arrays and features a front-access chassis.

IA-220-U2 can also serve as an easy-to-deploy computational storage processor in data centre platforms with plenty of U.2 slots but no PCIe slots.

TheIA-420F and IA-220-U2 join the full-size IA-840F PCIe card introduced in November 2020 to complete the family of solutions created to meet the requirements of the most demanding data centres.

Comments

"BittWare is excited to leverage Intel Agilex technology to support three of the most popular form factors used for data center and network infrastructure," said Craig Petrie, vice president of Sales and Marketing at BittWare. "As part ofthe Molex Group, we have the unique privilege of advancing technology innovations in products for enterprise applications, enabling our customers to deploy Intel Agilex FPGA-based solutions at the board and server level with reduced risk and cost."

"Intel Agilex FPGAs deliver industry-leading performance and power efficiency, and with cross-platform tools including oneAPI toolkits, they give customers the flexibility and adaptability they need to innovate across a variety of workload transitions in 5G, network, cloud and edge," said Deepali Trehan, vice president, Data Platforms Group and general manager, Programmable Solutions Group Product Marketing, Intel. "BittWare and Molex, both members of the Intel Partner Alliance program, enable some of the toughest challenges in data-centric computing, networking and storage. Leveraging Intel Agilex FPGAs and oneAPI toolkits, BittWare helps enterprise customers move from proof-of-concept to full-scale deployments, meeting qualification, validation, lifecycle management and support requirements.
