Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded its range of stepper motor drive ICs with a new product that can control the motor at constant current without requiring a current measurement resistor.

The new TB67S539FTG is housed in a 5.0 x 5.0 mm QFN32 package and is suitable for awide range of stepper motorapplications with constant current control, including those found in office automation and commercial and industrial equipment.

The device is also suitable for use in surveillance cameras and projectors.

Based on Toshiba'slatest BiCD process, the new product is capable of driving bipolar stepper motors with voltages up to 40V and currents up to 2.0A.

The half-bridge IC for motor control uses an Nch/Nch configuration and has an internal charge pump circuit to control the output stage.

The current detector is integrated into the QFN32 package, eliminating the need for an external current measurement resistor. In addition, the TB67S539FTG does not require an external capacitor for the charge pump, as it is also integrated.

With such a high level of integration, the PCB space requirement is greatly reduced.

The output stage (including the upper and lower transistors) has an RDS(ON ) of only 0.8 Ohm, which ensures efficient operation and reduces heat generation under operating conditions. In sleep mode, the device draws a maximum current of 1mA.

In addition to the stepper motor IC, a new compact complementary board is also available.

Created in collaboration withMikroe, the Click Stepper 17 board is supported by a library compatible with the mikroSDK environment, with functions that simplify software development.
