RFID Global has announced the addition to its catalogue of FEIG Electronic's new Industrial Long Range Reader LRU1002X in the UHF band, designed for the harshest industrial and railway environments.

An evolution of the LRU1002, the new device features a technical identikit that makes it even more resistant to the harsh environments of industry and, thanks to 12 certifications, ideal for the Railway & Transportation sector.

Enclosed in a rugged anthracite-coloured metal housing (IP64 with protective cap) and powered by a settable power of up to 2W, the RFID controller features 4 antenna outputs, an integrated multiplexer and connection to the external multiplexer ISC.ANT.UMUX, making installation simple and cost-effective.

Thehigh sensitivity of the device translates into the ability to consistently detect tags (EPC Gen2, ISO 18000-6C) up to 12 m away even if other RFID readers are operating in the area, while the 4 antenna connections and 4 circular connectors make the UHF controller the ideal tool in a variety of industrial applications, including automatic tracking of production progress and batch/pallet handling of products by installing the new controller on forklifts or conveyor belts.

Thanks to the powder-coated aluminium chassis and improved cooling system, the device ensures increased heat dissipation, enabling it to perform even in high-temperature environments with prolonged use.

Another distinguishing feature of the Long Range Reader is its 12 Railway certifications, making it a technological tool capable of withstanding the toughest challenges in this sector, including vibration (EN 61 373 Cat 1B), humid heat (EN 60 068-2-30), fire (EN 45 545), voltage stress (EN 50 155) and salinity in air (EN 50 155).

Protected from possible antenna malfunctions, such as short circuits or electrostatic discharges, the reader is equipped with I/Os and relays (8-pin) that, together with the RS232, Ethernet, USB and Wiegand interfaces, make the device capable of communicating with the surrounding world, enabling, for example, the opening/closing of barriers and robots; while 16 LED lights communicate the diagnosis of the operating modes of the device and the status of the antennas.

Particular attention was also paid to security during the design phase : the reader supports the new EPC Class1 Gen2 V2 and ISO 29167 chips (e.g. NXP UCODE DNA) and is equipped with Secure Key Storage to store the application keys in a secure memory (Secure Element).

Among the controller's distinctive features are an anti-collision function, RSSI output to locate RFID tags, support for communicating with encrypted transponders and a 'Config Cloning' function that allows the configuration of the device to be 'duplicated' if several devices are installed in the same or different locations.

Like all devices made by FEIG Electronic, the Long Range Reader LRU1002X has radio emission certifications (for Europe EN 302 208).
