Anyone who has ever run a marathon, written a university thesis or tried to learn a new language knows that speed alone does not get you there. In any field, good performance and lasting quality require a balance between speed and perseverance.
Thelatest innovation from Almit, distributed by Elco Elettronica, with regard to soldering tin wires, the "DB-1 RMA LFM-48 M", is based on just this principle: thanks to its double boost (flux activation phase), this product defines a new dimension that guarantees maximum wettability.
The first flux is a fast-acting activator that ensures good initial wetting, thanks to which the alloy immediately pours into the through-hole. The second, on the other hand, has a long-lasting effect that promotes wettability and machinability throughout the process.
In the tests carried out, Almit's "DB-1 RMA LFM-48 M" clearly outperformed other conventional soldering alloys, in which the wetting level is not sufficient and the alloy flows with difficulty into the through-hole and only after reflow soldering.
Soldering tip temperature: 380°C
Soldering tip speed: 2 mm/s
In addition, theprolonged activation of the second flux promotes the so-called "anti-bridge effect", which prevents the formation of bridges during soldering that could later cause short circuits.
By using "DB-1 RMA LFM-48 M", it is also possible to remedy what are known as "problem children", i.e. problems that frequently occur in the production process: for example, it enables a significant increase in solderability in through-hole soldering even with oxidised PCBs after reflow soldering. The "DB-1 RMA LFM-48 M" wire also creates the prerequisites for greater through-hole wettability and thus greater solderability in PCBs with high heat capacity. In these cases, conventional soldering wires would, on the contrary, have to be used at higher temperatures and for longer soldering times in order to achieve an equally satisfactory result, due to the low level of wetting they provide.
Soldering tip temperature: 380°C
Preheating time: 0 s
Quantity used: 6 mm
Speed of use: 20 mm/s
Heating time: 1.4 - 1.0 s
In addition to the significant increase in soldering quality, the "DB-1 RMA LFM-48 M" wire offers another crucial advantage in the electronics manufacturing industry: its extremely fast wetting enables a reduction in working time and thus, in the long term, in production costs. However, it is not only the flux that scores a major achievement, but also the alloy itself, which convinces through its low iron content. In conclusion, the maximum service life is increased and consumption is reduced by 50 to 70%.
