TDK Corporation has developed the new TFM201208BLE inductor series optimised for space-constrained smartphone power circuits.
These are available in 0.24, 0.33 and 0.47 μH versions.
Each supplied in a 2.0 x 1.2 x 0.8 mm form factor, the inductors in this latest TDK series exhibit significantly better electrical properties than the previous TFM201208BLD products, in terms of current levels and resistance.
A 10% higher current rating of 5.5 A was achieved, plus a 22% lower DC resistance of 25 mΩ compared to conventional products.
These parameters are the best in the industry for inductors of this size.
The increased performance was achieved through TDK's innovative metal-magnetic material technology and structural design.
As smartphone performance progresses further, SoCs with high arithmetic throughput will be required and the associated passive components will have to exhibit higher current characteristics.
Furthermore, the integration of more functionality into smartphone designs is increasing the number of power circuits involved.
Consequently, the inductors used must have low resistance and contribute to minimal losses to prolong battery life.
The TFM201208BLD series offers the value smartphone OEMs need by providing high current and low resistance.
TDK's entire TFM series also has a wide variety of inductors for automotive applications, including products with nominal voltages of 40 V for use in EV drives.
