What features are required for a smart charger?
The most innovative smart charging devices not only have top-level hardware features, which are now considered indispensable, but also offer additional functionality in terms of management and programmability. The NPB series of smart chargers is designed with an integrated microcontroller that enablesself-detection of the battery and automatically adjusts the charging voltage settings (mode suitable for lithium-ion batteries with BMS).
Charging can be selected in 2 or 3 stages, which can be adjusted via the SPB001 programmer, as well as charging voltage/current and timeout adjustment; of course, adjustment tasks can also be performed in manual mode via the integrated Dip Switch on the front panel with 4 pre-set profiles for quick and effective configuration.
The NPB series also has an integrated CANBus protocol that allows remote setting and monitoring of the charger. Certifications are also essential and in this respect there are standards for industrial applications ITE IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 and domestic EN60335-1/-2-29.
Among the most common applications where this type of hardware can be used are all electric and hybrid mobility systems such as charging solutions used for motorhomes, electric scooters, skateboards, service robots, medical trolleys, electric wheelchairs, boats and yachts.
