The Robotic Autonomous System (RAS)

All over the world, armed forces are beginning to integrate theuse of robots, autonomous military systems and electric vehicles into their operations.

What was once a futuristic vision has become a reality in international interventions and conflicts.

Armies and other armed forces will use RAS in the future, e.g. for civil defence and land reclamation activities.

Computerised vehicles, remotely controlled, enable situational awareness or transport aid to remote areas.

RAS are already deployed for border control or as support in hostile territories, especially in extreme weather conditions or in situations of high military danger.

For these activities, a wide range of sensors and systems are used that monitor and scan entire areas to facilitate missions.

The systems can help intervention forces operate more safely and efficiently.

Typical examples are unmanned ground vehicles, used for transporting supplies but also medical evacuations, or remotely controlled combat systems.

These UGVs must be able to recognise obstacles and men, so that possible dangers can be excluded.

Armies must rely on innovations and cutting-edge technologies such as these to avoid deploying personnel on site.

However, this also entails a risk that should not be underestimated: given the absence of the military, processes need to be rethought.

In the event of a system failure, repair and maintenance workers cannot intervene directly in the field, given the dangerous nature of the situation.

This is why the interfaces of the differentSituational Awareness Systems or drive technologies are designed in such a way that they can contribute with maximum reliability even in the harshest environmental conditions and in the presence of vibrations.

In areas where a human decision is required, flexible switching to a remotely controllable drive-by-wire or follow-me function is possible, depending on the system.

This can only be done through the use of 360° panoramic cameras and infrared and laser technology, connected to the soldiers' equipment.

The interfaces must be developed according to the intended applications, so that the systems are fail-safe.

For the transmission of the data required to conduct a mission, extremely robust, reliable connection and cabling systems are needed, designed for the specifics of different applications.

ODU solutions

Robustness to withstand high stresses and extreme temperatures; resistance to dust, water and vibrations: these are the characteristics that identify ODU systems.

Optimised solution for critical applications and transmission security even in the most technically hostile environmental factors.

This has enabled itssuccessful use in projects such as the Colossus firefighter robot or the Mars rover.

The particularly high requirements for high-speed data communication and high-frequency transmission were met thanks to solid technical expertise in the field of Dismounted Soldier Systems (DSS), an indispensable background for the operating and environmental conditions to which users and devices are exposed.

ODU connectors for military, security and communication systems offer a high degree of signal integrity due to the 360° shielding.

Several transmission protocols (USB/HDMI/DisplayPort) ensure high-speed data transmissions, protecting them from third-party access and preventing the use of standard interfaces.

A mechanical tongue and groove coding and colour coding help in extreme situations, preventing the risk of incorrect engagement.

Even in the smallest installation space, different transmission types can be individually configured.

The robust housing is waterproof up to IP6K9K, is non-reflective and is available with different connection and locking mechanisms.
