OMRON's FH-SMD sensors can be mounted on a robot to recognize randomly placed (bulk) parts in three dimensions, offering space-saving assembly and inspection and pick-and-place operations that are difficult to perform with traditional robots, while improving productivity.

OMRON bringsinnovation to manufacturing sites through complete solutions that combine robots and automation devices.

Due to labor shortages, manufacturers are looking for new ways to automate processes based on the senses of skilled operators, such as bin picking.

The new FH-SMD series 3D vision sensor is small and light enough to be mounted on a robotic arm, which eliminates the need for special mounting equipment and saves space.

This sensor can be moved to change viewpoints and easily recognize parts, reducing blind spots and ensuring reliable detection.

In addition, new 3D measurement technology allows parts to be detected in about 0.4 seconds, regardless of shape or position.

Assembly of bulk parts, for example in automotive applications, can be automated without problems.

Features
  1. Lightness and small size

Small and lightweight, the 3D vision sensor for robotic arms saves installation space. It does not require large mounting equipment or major layout changes, as is the case with other 3D vision sensors. In addition, it is easily transportable and allows flexible part picking from multiple locations.

  1. Faster cycle times due to speed and flexibility comparable to those of humans

High-speed detection in about 0.4 seconds simplifies picking and is performed by 3D measurement technology to create images of 3D shapes and 3D recognition technology to identify the location and posture of targets.

  1. Simple configuration without manuals

The wizards assist users step by step in setting up a picking application, from camera configuration to calibration.
